Online Noodle Class on Vegan Ramen
In our quest to cover as many noodle cuisine topics as possible we have reached a point where we think we need to address them from a position of a dietary approach most probably everyone is familiar with, and some are adherent to – veganism.
For many people veganism is not simply a diet which you can go on or off, but an important lifestyle position, a pivotal and all-encompassing credo, an existential paradigm important not only in dietary and nutritional terms but in psychological and philosophical as well. Such people are not few, and the number of them is growing, in its turn making vegan segment of the food and beverage business even bigger to the extent where it has become unwise to ignore it for any player in the industry regardless of whether they personally espouse and share such an approach or not.
Veganism, of course, is centered on eschewing animal-based and animal-derived products from one’s nutritional milieu, and thus Vegan Ramen would be any Ramen wherein no such ingredients are present.
This by default negates the mere possibility of making Vegan “Tonkotsu” or “Tori” ramen varieties as they contain pork and chicken by definition.
Otherwise, any Ramen – any variety (i.e. “shio”, “shoyu”, etc.) and type (“mazemen”, “tsukemen”, etc.) of it – can be prepared in Vegan style. And Ramen noodles are vegan to begin with — that is, unless they contain eggs (which contrary to a widespread belief they generally do not), and are marketed accordingly (as “egg noodles”).
You can learn more about basic Ramenology on >this page< of our Noodle Master Labs blog, or read a free >booklet< on Ramen authored by Yamato CEO Kaoru Fujii.
